Pollen is a source of protein and nectar provides carbohydrates for bees. Nectar has to be gathered from around 2 million flowers to make 1 pound of honey.

Pull flower stalks from rhubarb to keep plants vigorous.

Water garlic regularly unless rainfall is frequent.

Beware of bright red lily leaf beetles laying eggs on the undersides of lily leaves.

Sow sweet corn and bush beans in the garden.

Thyme makes a good ground cover on dry slopes.
