Herbs require lots of light for best growth. Place the pots of newly planted seeds near a window that receives direct sunlight most of the day. Your plants will be happiest there all winter!

Plant garlic now but wait until the ground freezes to mulch with straw.

Fall leaves prevent lawn grass from getting sunlight. Remove as they fall.

Pumpkins are an excellent source of the antioxidant beta-carotene.

Pot up amaryllis bulbs and water well. Don’t water again until new growth begins.

Scrub the birdbath with a solution of nine parts water, one part vinegar.

Use a small soft brush (not a damp sponge) to dust cactus stems, spines and thorns.
